Why do I cosleep?

Why do I cosleep?

So I can keep sleeping when you need to nurse.

So I can smell the sweet milky breaths you breathe all night long.

So I can stare at your moonlight-bright cheeks and marvel at  your perfection.

So I can help you connect with Daddy after a day of being separated.

So I can monitor your fever throughout the fitful, restless night.

So I can hear you choking and coughing, then catch the vomit in my hand (!!) before it gets all over you.

So I can feel the perfect fit of you snuggled up against my side.

So I can wake up to you patting my cheek and singing to me.

So we can snuggle our way to wakefulness each day.

So we can laugh and wrestle and connect on lazy Saturday mornings.

So I can enjoy you fully before you are too grown up to need to be in my bed anymore.

Because you are my child.

  1. So excited to find your blog. I am a mama of 19 month old b/g twins. We are still nursing and bed sharing. The mama's of toddlers I know are nursing/co-sleeping with singletons or twin mamas that no longer nurse or co-sleep. It has been challenging to find someone who can relate so closely to our experience. I was just telling my hubby the other day, that while sometimes our nights have more wakings then maybe they would if they were down the hall in cribs, I am so grateful to be so intimating part of their drifting to sleep each night and waking up in the mornings...and especially when they are sick or simply need us more than usual. Looking forward to hearing more of your story. ~Cayce

  4. Hello, mamas! I'm so glad I saw this today (thank you, Dionna, for reposting!). I am a bed-sharing nursing twin mama of almost 3 1/2 year old g/g twins, so yes I am out here and I love your post and I love connecting with other mamas who "get it"... Much love, Tracy

  6. Because mama needs a good night rest. :) I am way past nursing, but still check into blogs for my young mommy friends. Still have a co-sleeper. Mine all found their own beds when they were ready. Loved reading this. Blessings, Elizabeth

  7. I'm so glad you liked this! I was inspired to write it after nursing my boys to sleep last night. I just felt so content and peaceful, and so grateful to have those connecting moments with them.

  8. Sweet. :) My daughter sleeps fine in her own bed now (she's 3) but I love when she ends up with us. Family snuggles are the best!
